Schwedenplatz (Sweden Square) Vienna

Schwedenplatz is a well known square and an important transportation hub in the centre of Vienna.

At todays Schwedenplatz was the Rotenturmtor tower of the Viennese city wall until the second half of the 19th century.

During the time of the Austro-Hungarian empire the Schwedenplatz was called "Square Ferdinands-Platz" according to Ferdinand I. of Habsburg,  and received its name because of the massive help of Sweden to the children of Vienna after the first world war between 1919-1922.
