Graben Vienna

The Graben is one of the most famous streets in the centre of Vienna.

The Graben has its beginning at Stock-Eisen-Platz close to the Plalais Equitable and the bifurcation to Kohlmarkt. The Graben in Vienna is one of the most exclusive splendour lines in the centre of the city.

The Graben means translated into English language "trench" and had its beginning in the Roman time when Vienna was the Roman camp called "Vindobona". At todays street of the Graben existed a wall of a Roman castell and infront of the wall the trench. This trench remained until the middle ages. At the end of the 12th century Vienna expanded and the trench was filled up.
