Wilhering is located in the centre of Upper Austria on the shore of the Danube river, not far from the Upper Austrian capital Linz.

The main sight in Wilhering is the monastery which was established in the year 1146. The monastery was destroyed through a fire in 1733, and rebuilt in rococo-style. The monastery is one of the most important rococo buildings in the German speaking region.

The village of Wilhering was first mentioned in a document in the year 985.
