Mauthausen is a little town on the Danube river between Perg and Enns.

Mauthausen consits of following districts and villages: Albern, Bernascheksiedlung, Brunngraben, Haid, Hart, Heinrichsbrunn, Hinterholz, Marbach, Mauthausen, Oberzirking, Reiferdorf, Ufer, and Vormarkt.

Mauthausen comes from the word "toll". In the 10th century the Babenberger dynasty established a toll house to cross the Danube river. Around the "toll house" a settlement developed, which received the name "Mauthausen".
