The death of her husband made Maria Theresia so unhappy that she decided to give order for a monument on the main artery of Innsbrucks south end.

The result was the Triumphal Arch in Roman style.

It was in 1765 when the arch was built. Maria Theresia wanted to mourn the deatch of her loving husband Francis I Stephen von Lothringen. He died during the celebrations for the wedding of their son.
