Wildon

styria steiermarkInhabitants: 2.500

Wildon is a little village in the southern part of Styria, not far from its federal capital Graz. The Kainach river flows into the Mur river here.

Wildon was mentioned the first time in a document in the year 1219.  Wildon has an equestrian center and a lake for bathing. Wildon is situated on a cycle track which runs alongside the Mur river from Graz to Bad Radkersburg. The journey by train from Graz main station to Wildon takes approximately 27 minutes using trains travelling to Spielfeld-Strass.

It seems the name of the village comes from a wild man (wild man = Wildon?). The wild man is also seen on the crest of Wildon. There is a legend that such a man lived in Wildon in a cave of the Schlossberg. His looks on the crest could referrer to a Celtic descent.
