Krieglach

krieglachInhabitants: 5.500

Krieglach is located in the Mürztal valley in the North Eastern part of the federal state of Styria. The town is very famous through its poet and writer Peter Rosegger.

The name Krieglach comes from the expression "Chrugelahe". The legend tells a little mug was found in a puddle. Little Mug = Krügl = Kriegl. Puddle = Pfütze = Lache = Lach. So far where the name comes from. The place was mentioned the first time in a document in 1148.

The municipality of Krieglach consits of following districts and villages: Alpl, Fress¸nitz, Fress¸nitzgraben, Krieglach, Schwöbing (Krieglacher Schwöbing), Malleisten, Massing and Sommer.

From 1780 Krieglach developed to an important resting place for travellers between Vienna and Trieste. The "old post office" still remains from those glorious times. The beginning of the first world war in 1914 stopped the rise of the ambitious town. Nowadays Krieglach is a cosy calm little town with growing number of inhabitants.
