Kindberg is located in the North Eastern part of Styria.

The municipality consists of following districts and villages: Herzogberg, Kindberg, Kindbergdörfl, Kindtal and Kindtalgraben.

Kindberg was mentioned the first time in a document in 1172 as "Chindeberch". In that time the place was populated by Bavarian settlers who supplanted Celts, Romans and Slavs. Since the 14th century Kindberg is known for its iron trade. At the end of the 19th century the town became also an important place for summer tourism. Since some years Kindberg tries to settle electronic industry.

In 2003 Kindberg was elected to be the most beautiful flower city of Europe.
