Hohentauern is a little village in the mountains of the federal state Styria in the heart of Austria.

Hohentauern is well known for the Tauernpass, which is the direct traffic connection from northern Austria to southern Austria.

The settlement on the pass (Taurus Inferior) was first mentioned in the year 1140. Since the 12th century the Triebener Tauernpass was used as trade route.

There is winter tourism and summer tourism in Hohentauern.

The church "Hl. Bartholomäus" was built in the 14th century. Around 1885 the artists Siegmund Wagner created five pictures with religious subjects on the pulpit. The carving artist Josef Stammel created the altar with wonderful carving works. The tower cross and the weather cock are from the 16th century. There are three tower bells. The oldest was made between 1438 and 1458 by Hans Mitter from Judenburg.Next to the church: Restaurant Tauernwirt.
