Bruck an der Mur is located between the towns of Leoben and Kapfenberg, and known for its railway hub. During the middle ages Bruck an der Mur was an important commercial town in the Upper region of the province Styria.

Already in the Stone Age, the area in and around Bruck an der Mur was populated. In a changeful history from 2.000 BC to 778, a lot of different peoples came and left. In 778 Bavarians took the place, and called the town "Prukka". Prukka was mentioned the first time in a document in 860.

In a document of the 17th August 1263 the name of the town changed the first time into "Bruck".
