St. Johann im Pongau or St Johann/Pongau is a small town in the middle of the province of Salzburg in Austria. It is the capital of the district of Pongau.

In July 2000 the town of St Johann completed the Stadtserhebung process and received the official designation of "city" from the Austrian government.

On a hillside a few kilometers north of St. Johann lies the spot where Julie Andrews and crew filmed the opening shots of the "Do-Re-Mi" sequence in The Sound of Music.

The first mention of St Johann im Pongau dates from the year 1074 with the name "ad sanctum Johannem in villa".

The city is also renowned as a great ski destination, offering dozens of lifts and over 300 km of skiing nearby. Best for intermediate skiers, beginners, experts, and snowboarders will also be happy here. Resorts here cater to skiers.  The Alpenland Sporthotel is just one of many timeshares and resorts in the area that offer accommodations for avid skiers and holidaymakers.
