Langenlois is located in the south eastern part of the Waldviertel region, on the end of the Kamptal valley and on the feet of the Mount Manhartsberg. The loessic soil offers a wonderful basis for the winegrowing and viticulture.

The villages of : Gobelsburg (including Zeiselberg), Mittelberg, Reith, Schiltern (including Kronsegg) und Zöbing also belong to the municipality of Langenlois.

Langenlois was first mentioned in a document in the year 1081. The town has market status since the year 1310.

The settlers from the north have seen and named the brook and the area according to their feelings as "Liubisa", "the lovely one".  The name changed it's form several times: Liubes, Lewbs, Leubs, Langenleys and finally Langenlois.

Loisium - the Wine Adventure Park in Langenlois. The building housing the reception area was designed by the New York architect Steven Holl on the edge of Langenlois, in the midst of a magnificent vineyard area.Steven Holl’s building transforms the layout of the cellar network into an abstract, three-dimensional cube-shaped space some 25m x 25m x 13m in volume. The cube itself leans approx. 5 degrees to the south in the direction of the cellar area. The outer skin of the building consists of bru shed aluminium and part of the inner surface cladding is of light cork. It may be assumed that because of its special architectural design LOISIUM will become the Mecca for interested visitors both at home and abroad.Upon entering the building, a wonderful spatial experience awaits the visitor. As well as a café, there is a vinotheque with wine-tasting area and basement shop. It is in the café area that the visitors leave the building, heading towards the underworld of wine.A few steps through the vineyard and past a glass roof (which is built into the ground and covered with water) the visitors reach a magic gateway. The gateway, inviting the visitors into the underworld of wine, is set into a large quarrystone wall and many often wonder if they should shout “open, sesame to gain entry.
