The city of Hainburg is located on the Danube river between Vienna and Bratislava and close to the border of Slovakia.

The first settlers in Hainburg were Celtics who lived on the hill called "Braunsberg". The first mention of Hainburg happend in the song of the Niebelungenlied. Hainburg was mentioned in connection with Rüdiger von Bechelaren.

The 11th July 1683 marks a dark spot in the history of Hainburg. Turkish soldiers took the city and killed all 8.000 inhabitants in one day.

After the lost world war in 1918, Hainburg became the most eastern city in Austria.

The castle of Hainburg was built under the reign of Heinrich III in 1050.
