The Ruin Durnstein is located behind the town on a steep hill. The English King Richard I - The Lionheart (Richard L÷Âwenherz, C├ůÔÇťur de Lion) was prisoned there to receive some ransom from England. England payed, and Austria was able to enlarge Vienna with that money.The Castle D├â┬╝rnstein was destroyed in 1645 by the Swedish Army under General Lennart Torstenson.
