deutsch altenburgInhabitants: 1.400

Bad Deutsch-Altenburg is a little village in Lower Austria on the shore of the Danube river, not far from Austrias capital Vienna in Eastern direction.

Bad Deutsch-Altenburg was mentioned the first time in 1297. The village was built around a castle which was existing since the 11th century. Maybe that's where the name for the village comes from: Altenburg (old castle), Deutsch Altenburg (German old castle).

The most important attraction in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg is the hottest Iodine-Sulphur-Thermal-Spring in Austria. The visitors of the thermal spring can treat their nervous affection and rheumatic diseases. Already the Romans knew about the thermal spring in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg and maintained a spa resort for their soldiers.
