radenthein carinthia kärntenInhabitants: 7.000

Radenthein is a town in the Northern part of Carinthia, close to the Lake Millstätter See and the Mount Nockberge.

It was 1177 when Radenthein was first mentioned in a document as "villam Rathetin cum capella". It us supposed that the districts Döbriach and Kaning were found already more than 1.000 years ago.

During the middle ages a mining industry is can be proved around Radenthein. There was iron processing on the place of todays Magnesit company. In the neighbouring garnet ravine, garnet stones were mined.

The discovery of magnesit in 1908 was very important for the development of the town in the younger history. The „Austro American Magnesit Company“ was found and caused a durable growth of population, which is still continuing today.

Radenthein had their football club in the first league of the Austrian championship 3 times: 1967/68, 1970/71 and 1973/74 in association with Villach.
